This document is an overview of some of the main rights and resources available to faculty at the University of Arizona. It has been conceived and constructed by the Academic Personnel Policy Committee (APPC)—a Faculty Senate Committee—with help from university offices acknowledged in each relevant slide.

Hispanic Serving Institution (HSI) Initiatives
A Hispanic Serving Institution (HSI) is a federal designation by the U.S. Department of Education that acknowledges colleges and universities with 25% or more total undergraduate Hispanic full-time equivalent student enrollment.
There are 20 HSIs classified as a R1 Institution, the UA being one of 20 universities that joined the Alliance of Hispanic Serving Research Universities which launched in 2022.
- Hispanic Serving Institution Fellows Program - Supported by a strategic investment from the Office of the Provost and partnering departments across campus, the HSI Fellows Program serves to strategically further the scope and depth of work around our HSI designation and provide a venue for community-building and career development for a cohort of up to 10 faculty and staff each year through a project-based leadership experience, mentoring and coaching, and a series of targeted workshops.
- University of Arizona Hispanic Serving Institution (HSI) Faculty Seed Grants. The goal of this fund is to support scholarly research and creative work among faculty which enriches the UArizona’s designation as an Hispanic Serving Institution (HSI), advances scholarship that directly impacts BIPOC (Black, Indigenous, and People of Color) populations, and fulfills UArizona’s Purpose and Values.

The National Center for Faculty Development & Diversity (NCFDD) is a nationally recognized, independent organization that provides online career development and mentoring resources for faculty, postdocs, and graduate students. Because the University of Arizona is an Institutional Member, all of our faculty, postdocs, and graduate students are granted free membership.

RESOURCES FOR WOMEN IN LEADERSHIP
This Faculty Affairs Website offers a list of institutional, national, and international resources for faculty women leaders. These resources include: programs, conferences, institutes, awards, books, articles and other opportunities for woman leaders in higher education.
Information regarding phased retirement and emeritus status.
- Emeritus Status: Faculty who retire from the university in good standing, have served a minimum of fifteen years, and receive approval from the President are given the title of Emeritus. Documentation from the department head and dean must be forwarded to the Office of the Provost for review. The Provost submits the recommendation to the President for final approval. See UHAP 3.1.04 and UHAP 4A.1.01.
