The current total number of Regents Professors is 46. According to ABOR Policy 6-208 – Honored Faculty Positions, “At any one time the number of Regents Professors at a university shall not exceed three percent (3%) of the total number of tenured and tenure-track faculty members.” With 1,557 tenure/tenure-eligible professors at present, we are at full capacity for Regents Professors. Therefore, no new appointments should be made this awards’ cycle of 2025-2026.

Purpose
The designation of Regents Professor is an honored position reserved for faculty scholars of exceptional ability who have achieved national and international distinction. The title Regents Professor serves as recognition of the highest academic merit and is awarded to faculty members who have made a unique contribution to the quality of the University through distinguished accomplishments in teaching scholarship, research, or creative work.
