The University of Arizona Commitment Statement to Join the Action Collaborative Partner Network

The University of Arizona (UArizona) is committed to and will actively participate in the Action Collaborative Partner Network. We commit to sharing information about our institutions efforts and innovations in preventing and addressing sexual harassment. We will use, adapt, implement and share the resources and best practices identified by the Action Collaborative. Organizational commitments to date includes having an institutional liaison fellow for the Prevention of Sexual Harassment. This individual will serve as liaison and coordinate efforts on campus by organizing regular meetings with multiple offices dedicated to prevention of sexual harassment, including the Office of Institutional Equity (which houses Title IX), Human Resources, and the Consortium against Gender Violence.

Prevention of Sexual Harassment Fellow

The purpose of the Prevention of Sexual Harassment Fellow is to serve as University of Arizona point of contact for the Partner Network of the Action Collaborative on Preventing Sexual Harassment in Higher Education. The fellow will complete any necessary paperwork to maintain the university’s participation in the partner network. They will provide any materials or reports necessary to the Partner Network in order to stay active. They will attend any relevant conferences and share information from NASEM’s reports or materials with the University of Arizona community, which includes shared governance, campus partners, community, and alumni organizations.

Dr. Adrián Arroyo serves as the Associate Director for Faculty Affairs within the University of Arizona Office of the Provost. In this role, he implements efforts to facilitate collaboration across the university to strategically advance institutional capacity related to faculty professional development and oversees faculty retention strategies. This includes developing regular reports on faculty, leading new faculty onboarding, research best practices for faculty development, and collaboratively develop programs and support systems for faculty mentoring. Dr. Arroyo is a proud first generation queer scholar and a UArizona Hispanic Serving Institution Fellow. 

Prior to serving in this role, Dr. Arroyo oversaw the implementation of global curriculum integration strategies in the UA Global Office. He also worked to cultivate partnerships across the university and higher education institutions abroad to increase accessible opportunities for international and BIPOC students to graduate school and STEM career pathways. His work ethics have always been oriented towards social justice and equity. Dr. Arroyo has received awards for his leadership and service, including the Global Excellence Award for his exceptional work in internationalizing the university campus, and the Leadership Service Award in recognition of excellent leadership in the name of social justice and LGBTQ+ liberation among others. 

Prior to working in higher education, he worked in the pharmaceutical industry managing international projects at Janssen: Pharmaceutical Companies of Johnson & Johnson, Eli Lilly Mexico and Bristol Myers Squibb. Dr. Arroyo earned a doctorate in Higher Education from the Center for the Study of Higher Education in Arizona after completing a Bachelor of Science in Chemistry and Pharmaceutical Sciences from La Salle University.
