Tara Chandler serves as the Assistant Director, Mentoring Initiatives within the Office of Faculty Affairs at the University of Arizona. Her primary focus is to help coordinate the MENTOR Institute activities which includes on-line internal training to support mentoring for faculty, graduate, and undergraduate students. In addition, she coordinates faculty peer group mentoring communities, supports the MENTOR Institute faculty directors, organizes the efforts of the MENTOR Institute Steering Committee and MENTOR Fellows, and contributes to the implementation of innovative mentoring strategies.
Earlier in her career, Tara was a Senior Instructor and Curriculum Developer at the Center for English as a Second Language on the University of Arizona campus. In addition to developing and teaching classes, she served as the Reading Academic Advisor. In that capacity, she mentored new teachers on teaching reading skills and gave feedback on summative reading assessments. She won the “Excellence in Teaching” award and participated in several collaborative research projects resulting in presentations and publications.
Prior to her current role, Tara worked as the Professional Development Manager for BASIS Independent Schools. In that capacity, she hired, trained, and managed over 50 lead teachers across the network and converted the new teacher training into the online environment.
Tara has earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in English from Spring Arbor University, a M.Ed. in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages from Regent University, and most recently, a Graduate Certificate in Educational Technology from Northern Arizona University.
