Parental Leave: The University is committed to being a family-friendly employer. As of July 1, 2014 all benefits-eligible employees employed for at least 12 months can take 6 weeks of paid parental leave following the birth or adoption of a child.
Clock Delay: The birth or adoption for a child shouldn’t derail tenure plans. In addition to paid parental leave, the UA offers opportunities to “stop the clock” in order to support your professional success and your family’s well-being.
Temporary Alternative Duty Assignments (TADA): The Temporary Alternative Duty Assignment program allows faculty, staff, and supervisors to agree on alternative duty assignments, for up to 16 weeks.
Emergency/Back-up Child Care: When your child is ill or regular childcare is unavailable, the UA will subsidize the costs for temporary care provided in your own home.
Child Care Resource and Referral: Are you seeking quality and affordable child care? Our UA Life&Work Connections professionals can guide you to available options.
Lactation Rooms and Resources: The UA is strongly committed to assisting mothers wishing to provide breast milk for their babies and provides access to a lactation consultant and private lactation sites across campus.
Child Care Vouchers: UA Life& Work Connections provides vouchers to assist parents to cover the costs of childcare.
Elder Care and Life Cycle Resources: Is your dad having trouble with his memory? Is your mother no longer able to live alone? Worried about your parents’ finances? The UA Life&Work Connections team can identify quality resources, make referrals to organizations, agencies and experts, and help you connect with others through the UA Caregiver Support group.
Campus Recreation for Youth and Family: Activity camps, family programs and Birthday parties are offered throughout the year with youth camps coinciding with school breaks. Integrative programs range from individual classes to week long camps and are designed for all ages with a focus on wellness, discovery, adventure and fun.
Storytime: UA BookStores, SUMC hosts the Storytime Character Hour on the first Saturday of every month at UA BookStores, SUMC (with some exceptions), offering educational reading and activities for children ages two to five years old, and a special in-person appearance by some of your favorite storybook characters. And for your own health and wellness: Employee Wellness & Health Promotion programs include a variety of services that assist UA employees in maintaining or improving their health, ranging from health screenings and flu shots to fitness classes and healthy recipes.
